Abstract

Chronic kidney failure is a progressive disease that requires long-term hemodialysis therapy. This therapy did not only impacts physical conditions but also causes various psychological stresses, one of which is an anxiety. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the duration of hemodialysis and anxiety levels in patients undergoing therapy. It was used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 49 patients selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale questionnaire, which was used to measure patient anxiety levels. Data were statistically analyzed using the chi-square test to evaluate the relationship between the duration of hemodialysis and the level of anxiety experienced. The results showed a significant relationship between the duration of hemodialysis and patient anxiety levels (p-value = 0.001; p < 0.05). It is recommended that healthcare professionals increase educational efforts and provide psychological support specifically to patients in the early stages of therapy in the hope of alleviating anxiety, accelerating patient adaptation, and improving compliance with long-term treatment procedures.
